With yesterday’s walk through the snow still in my legs, I drove over to The Pingles Stadium for the usual Monday night interval session.

I arrived in plenty of time which gave me the opportunity to warm up with a few laps and some stretches.

As I finished my warm up, Nick, who runs the session was just finishing putting tonight’s session on the whiteboard.

Tonight was Plan 29. I asked Nick how many plans he had. Thirty One – one for each day of the month. Makes sense.

As the start time approached so did a number of runners – and another walker – Carolyn whom I’d last seen on my first visit to the Harriers.

The session started and I went hard / easy as the plan.

On the second set, I was walking alongside Carolyn, which is quite an achievement as she is a lot faster than I.

To be fair, she was recovering from a recent bout of Covid – but still !

On the final set, we pushed it a bit with Carolyn egging me to go faster and then to hold that pace for the entire leg.

With Carolyn’s encouragement, I managed a few rather quick bits which I most likely wouldn’t have on my own – thanks.

On some of the recovery portions, we talked about the upcoming Winter league race on the 12th of December and Carolyn also mentioned some club races planned for next year. There is usually a 2k race walk and I was being pushed / encouraged to take part in the masters section (old duffers).

More encouraging was Carolyn’s assessment of my technique which she said was very much improved compared with my first session back at the beginning of the month.

After the workout, we had to take the obligatory photo which Carolyn promptly sent of to Coach Steve.

The next seeing is on Thursday evening where I have been promised some hills – hills are our friends, hills are our friends !
