I left the car at work, last night, and walked home whilst nearly everyone else was watching England beat Germany in the Euros (it’s a football thing!)
With the car at work, I needed to walk in to work this morning. The plan said eight miles so I devised a route taking in urban (obviously), riverside and canalside and of the requisite length.
To get to work before 08:00, I needed to leave home by 06:00 which meant I had to rise by half five. The dogs had other ideas and I found myself up just before 05:00. After letting the dogs out into the garden, it wasn’t really worth going back to bed for less than half an hour.
I had time for a, non rushed, breakfast before packing a few bits and pieces into my vest.
I was out of the front door with the watch counting the miles by 05:26.
The walk initial took me through suburban streets to join the Cole Valley Walkway after a couple of miles.
The river was followed for another mile and a half. Remembering the blocked footpath from last week, I left the river behind and was back to walking the streets traversing the districts of Alum Rock and Small Heath arriving at the Grand Union Canal for the final mile.
Not as quick as the walk home last night but still at a reasonable sub fourteen minute per mile pace.
