Still with three days of self-isolation to go (or the siege as I like to call it) any walks out side were ruled out so I had to dust of the treadmill.
After a short trial yesterday, I became aware of a few shortcomings. The main one was that I kept bashing my hands on the handles which house the heart rate sensors.
This morning, before any walking, I decided to modify the treadmill.
This involved hacksawing off the extensions holding the sensors.
After partially dismantling the top of the treadmill, I disconnected the sensors, pulled the wires back then attacked the redundant parts with a junior hacksaw filling the empty ends with the original bungs from the bits that had just been separated.
The heart rate sensors have been move from the handles to to main display module – and they work !
There’s still a bit of tidying up but everything is ready to go.
So let’s go !
The plan calls for twenty two miles but I can’t face that long (five and a half hours) on a treadmill. So I decided on a couple of five mile sessions, instead.
I’ve installed Zwift on my ageing Surface PC, hooked up the TV to mirror the screen and paired the treadmill and heart rate chest monitor.
For my first session, I chose London followed after a short break with a jaunt around Harrogate.
I have also discovered that my TV has PIP (Picture in Picture) so I was able to view Zwift and watch TV at the same time. It all helps to break the monotony !
No the most interesting workout but at least I managed to clock up a few miles.
