The usual commute comprising of a bus and a two mile walk along the dawn illuminated tow path of the Grand Union Canal.
A, not too brisk, stroll, completing the two miles in 30:49.
I’m finding that two miles is just enough to blow out the cobwebs and get the body and mind ready for the day ahead.
I’m planning on a nine miler this evening after work.
After work and it was back on to the canal heading towards Spaghetti Junction. Somewhere around Star City I had to pull out the head torch.
After switching to the Birmingham Fazeley canal, I noticed that my average pace was around 15:10 so decided to up the pace. By the time I’d reached Kingsbury Road my average pace over four miles had dipped to 14:59 a mile. This acceleration continued and I finished the walk on 14:49 over 9.5 miles.
Instead of my usual route up Castle Bromwich hill I detoured up to the Clock Garage (which is currently undergoing a massive rebuild) before walking along the old Birmingham Road into Castle Bromwich.
I snapped a photo of Castle Bromwich Hall, all lit up, as I passed.
After all those miles, which burned around a thousand calories, I rewarded myself with a bag of chips from Greasy Greg’s on the way past.
Back home I further treated myself and especially by tired legs to a soak in the bath.
Total now stands at 58 miles which means I got to colour in Cornwall !
