Only a few days to go before I venture to the Peak District to take part in the twenty six mile Dovedale Dipper. The course is mainly off-road and as would be expected of the area ( and there’s a clue in the name ) it is rather undulating.
It all kicks off at nine, so I’ll need to be up and out by seven at the latest. The mileage is similar to some of my longer walks but the ups and downs are likely to make a difference and should give me a good workout.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve received detailed instructions which I have drawn out on my new OS map ( Outdoor Leisure 24 ) and today have created a route for my Garmin GPSmap 62. So with GPS, map & compass and instructions, hopefully, I won’t get lost.
Towards the end of the month, I’ve got another challenge walk this time around Sandwell. This is, again, twenty six miles including a mile and a half long tunnel. To make up the mileage, I’ll be walking from home to the start making forty miles for the day. My wife has kindly offered to pick me up afterwards 🙂
On the personal front, I’ll be starting a new job at the end of the month. This will mean that the walk to work will be nearer 5.5 miles compared to the 3.5 now.
I’ve also some leave left where I am so will have a week’s holiday this month – where can I go for a walk that week, I wonder ?
My new job requires me to go down to Luton Airport for a week’s induction and training. They are kindly sorting out some accommodation down there so I’ll have some new areas to explore.
