Whilst searching the internet for articles on long distance walking I came across the LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION website ( ldwa.org.uk ).

Along with lots of useful info there is the EVENTS section. There are loads of walks listed from short, local guided walks to the more ambitious challenges. These are walks of around 26 miles ( some longer, some shorter ) all over the country. I looked through my local walks and found two which would fit in to my training schedule perfectly.

I have, therefore, signed up for…

4 August    –   Dovedale Dipper  –  26 mile circular from Hartington, Nr. Ashbourne   and
25 August  –  Sandwell Six Towns Marathon – 26 miles starting and finishing from Sandwell Valley Park. ( This is my longest training walk so I’ll need to top this up with a 12 mile walk home afterwards !!! )

I have also joined the LDWA ( £13 per year ) so am now an official walking anorak !
